So with lockdown 2 being in force in the UK, you may what to pick up a few hobbies and creative things to do to help you pass the time. I know I will! Also, it’s generally it’s nice to have a creative outlet that isn’t related to your work. This post shares 7 creative things to do when you’re feeling existential.
Exercise
Being cooped up in the house all the time isn’t good for both your mental and physical health. Doing exercise can actually help to get your creative juices flowing, as you are using parts of your brain that you wouldn’t usually if just sitting at home.
In September, I decided to give the Couch 2 5K plan a go and I have now completed it! The trainers are encouraging and the plan is set up in a way where you don’t have to exhaust yourself, but take your time to build up your endurance. It’s been a great way for me to get out the house and build up my fitness. If I can do it, anyone can as my fitness endurance was very low before this plan. I will now be trying out more home exercises and as well as some jogging here and there.
Creative Things To Do: Cooking
Cooking is another great way to express your creativity! We all need to eat so it’s a way to put your creativity into productive use! There are endless recipes to try out. It can be a good time to look at healthy tasty recipes and invest more time being conscious about what you put in your body.
Learn An Instrument
A few years ago I took up a few private piano lessons but didn’t quite keep up with them! So I thought this lockdown would be a good opportunity to get back into it! Music is therapeutic and so being able to learn to produce something therapeutic can be an amazing process too!
Creative Things to Do: Paint
If you are more of a visual creative, painting, or even drawing, can be a way to express your creativity also. As Christmas is coming, you could aim to create a few Christmas cards to post to family and friends.
Create A Music Playlist/ DJ
During university, I discovered a love for creating playlists. I’ve shared on here before that if I wasn’t a writer, I may just have been a DJ or music producer! Discovering new songs through Spotify, Soundcloud, or even YouTube can really uplift your mood, and creating them into a playlist for others with a similar music playlist to you is great!
Creative Things To Do: Write Poetry
Creative Writing can also be a way to encourage your creative juices. We are in a very unique situation so, you could write about anything that inspires you or even if it’s a way to express your stream of consciousness. Why not post these writings on your blog- it could inspire others and you could even gain an audience from this.
Photography
Photography has quickly become one of my favourite ways to be creative too! You don’t have to have a professional camera to take pics either. Most smartphones nowadays are built to have a good enough camera, and there is also a range of free photo editing software you can try out, like Adobe Lightroom.
