Today was a very exciting day for me at YJA. BBC Radio Journalist Will Vernon, led a session where he spoke about his field of Journalism and the different sectors within it.
As part of the session, Will split us up into groups of 7 to look in various newspapers and set up our own radio show by choosing 4 news stories with one as our lead. This task was part of a competition where the wining group got the opportunity to have a tour around the Radio 4 studio, as well as attend one of their editorial meetings. Thankfully, my group won! Will explained the reasons why he chose us as the winners was because of the leading story we chose, which was different to the other groups who mainly chose Syria, where as we chose Lebanon. Furthermore, he commented on the way we ended with a lighter-themed story on the topic of an apparent invisible hotel room based in Sweden and the questions of privacy that it could rise.
I’m very grateful to Will Vernon for choosing our group to take on this opportunity and look forward to visiting Radio 4, which should be happening sometime next week!
Also look out for my next- and FINAL- blog post about YJA!
