As a freelance writer, I have explored different disciplines before finding my niche as a freelance blogger predominantly. In this post, I will share 11 different freelance writing jobs.
1. Freelance Journalist
Journalists will always be needed in the world. With news moving more online, it’s a little more accessible to find pitch callouts for journalists on Twitter and subscribe to newsletters that share job opportunities. Feature writing and reporting are some article formats journalists are known to write in.
2. Freelance Blog Writing
This is becoming an increasingly popular path as many brands are looking for content marketing and blogs are a way for them to connect further with their audience, beyond the business level. To become a blogger, SEO is something that should be in your skill set.
3. Freelance Social Media Copywriting
Whether it’s Facebook, or Instagram, captions play a significant role in creating content. Regardless of how short or long a caption is, you can get paid to write social media copy for social media accounts.
4. Content Writing
Every website needs good content. As a content writer, you can write pages for websites according to their brand guidelines. Writing content in line with SEO is a key component to writing website pages, as it increases the chances of the website ranking on Google.
5. Freelance Newsletter Writing
This is another popular marketing strategy for brands. It helps them keep their more dedicated audience members updated with what is happening in their business. By familiarizing yourself with how to use CMS such as Mailchimp, Omnisend, etc., you can pitch and apply for newsletter writer jobs. The great thing is that you can start learning these for free with email providers like Mailchimp.
6. Freelance Transcript Writing
With Youtube being the second biggest search engine in the world, after Google, there is a market to sell transcription services for YouTubers. Whether it’s creating a transcript for a YouTube video or creating subtitles for the already filmed video, writing has a place on this video platform, too.
7. Freelance Editing Writing
Even the very best writers need editors! So, there are many opportunities to sell your editing services to various clients. Whether it’s proofreading for students or a business looking to look over something they have put together.
8. Freelance CV Writer
Do you have a knack for looking over and structuring CVs? Why not offer this service to clients? Students are a great client base as they are currently doing their studies and, therefore, are more likely to be new to the workforce. You can help them structure their CV according to what recruiters seek.
9. Freelance Course Writing
Courses, particularly e-courses, are becoming a popular educational medium, especially since the pandemic. So many businesses and entrepreneurs are looking to create courses in their field and are looking for people to write this for them. It’s a great opportunity!

10. Press Release Writer
If you are a freelance journalist already, being a press release writer could fit in pretty neatly with this, as you will have access to a range of contacts that could help you write and send press releases. You could even increase your premium because of your extra access to certain contacts.
Either way, being a press release writer is a worthy option when looking for freelance writing jobs.
11. Freelance Case Studies
Many businesses are looking to showcase the work they have done with other clients. You could be that person to write up their case studies so that they can share them with potential clients.
