Support Black-Owned Businesses: British Access

black-owned businesses blog post banner

This blog post shares a list of black-owned businesses accessible to Britons and beyond!

With all that is going on right now with the appalling reminder of just how harsh and present racism is in the world, I wanted to write a post sharing black-owned businesses. How we spend our money has great power on the economy. It speaks volumes. The more that black-owned businesses are supported, the more diversity there is, and the more they have the chance to flourish in the mainstream.

Black-Owned Hair Businesses

Remi Reports natural hair staples

The black hair market is saturated with products and there are increasingly more and more black-owned businesses creating their own hair products. This is the ultimate ideal as buying products from those with experience with dealing with black hair themselves, helps you trust the brand more.

As a freelance writer with a niche in black hair myself, I’ve had the privilege of testing out some great black hair brands, with a focus on natural ingredients. These include:

Root2Tip

All of Root2Tip’s products have at least 98% natural hair ingredients. The brand was launched by Sal Baxter, after her bout with hair loss. She was able to grow her daughter’s hair to waist length at age 5 and she puts it down to these products she created. I am particularly a fan of the honey-rain juice, as it detangles knots and moisturises tresses really well. I have 4c type hair so it was amazing to see this at work.

Purely Natural By Anastasia (PNBA)

Purely Natural By Anastasia Sandalwood Hair Tools

The founder of PNBA is also the founder of Purely Natural Hair Salon in London, the first natural hair salon in London. PNBA has some great quality sandalwood made hair tools. They have less snag and pulling than plastic or metal combs or brushes and the sandalwood scent smells divine!

Primal Beauty

Primal Beauty is founded by the owner of hair shop in South East London, Sandyxs, Sandra.

This brand offers a range of both hair and skin care products based around natural ingredients. I’m a fan of their Black Soap Shower creme and Black Soap Shampoo which is an easy flow consistency.

Innocent Hair Care

Skin Care Black-Owned Businesses

Black Girl Sunscreen

As we enter the sunny season, we need to take extra care of our skin. Black girl sunscreen has just landed a great donor and now is valued at ¢5million. There’s a myth that black people don’t need sunscreen, and although we are less susceptible to being sunburnt compared to caucasian people, we are not immune from the harmful UV rays from the sun. Black girl sunscreen is specifically designed with black skin in mind. They currently stock in Target in America but also have an online shop.

Brown Beauty Boutique

Brown beauty Boutique, formerly known as At Bar London, is an online boutique for black and brown beauties. From makeup to nail polish, Brown Beauty boutique hosts a range of brands that are dedicated to serving melanin beauties. Some of the brands they sell include. Super Food LX, MS Hair Foundation, Almocado, and much more!
