On day three of YJA, we had the pleasure of well-known TV critique Ally Ross leading a session for us, who- *que the ”awhs”*- , took time out of his holiday just to attend this workshop- how thoughtful!
In this session, as well as getting a rough idea of what it’s like in the life of a Sun Newspaper TV critique, (which involves waking up daily at 5am to watch routinely shows such as This Morning) we also got a chance to write a review on any topic of our choice. However, prior to that Ally advised us to make our opinion clear by being either positive or negative and not wavering in between.
So here’s what I wrote. (May I also point out that I only had 10 minutes to complete this task, so excuse me if the detail is not completely ‘up-to-scratch’) .
Pacific Rim. Possibly the most forced action film known to man. Apart from the use of well-known actor Idris Elba largely contributing to it’s publicity- I think it would’ve been better off left at sea.
This poor reenactment of Transformers, poses a childish storyline of sea monsters attempting to take over the world, with humans, predictably, fighting back in the aim of “cancelling the apocalypse”. I mean, give it a rest! But wait, theres more. Just when you think the already over- emphasized action is about to stop, suddenly another unnecessary blast of action is forcibly thrown at you!
To top it all off, I paid £12 to watch this poor attempt of a film. Pacific Rim? Yeah right, more like Ma-hu-sive rip-off!
Keep a look out for my next post about YJA!
