I have recently been studying the topic of God’s love and have been left in admiration of the features I have come to understand about it- more than ever before. As a result of this, I thought that I would share with you some of my knowledge and understanding of this awe-felt love. Enjoy and be blessed!

We all know of the scripture John 3;16 which informs us of the measures of God’s love; that he sent his only son, Jesus, to die for us so that we may have eternal life. However, although many of us are familiar with this scripture we often take it for granted through the smallest things e.g. doubting our worth or beauty in Christ.

To truly understand this scripture, we have to recognize that we are totally undeserving of this wonderful agape love that God has for us. Once we realize this, we can come to know that it is from God’s pure nature alone that He willingly chose to save us from sin, by sending his faultless son to die for us. This act, of Jesus freely giving his life for our sake, is a confirmation of our worth to God.

As your Father, God knows and wants the best for you. Psalms 139:17-18 speaks of the countless thoughts that He bears towards us. The idea of an omnipotent and omniscient God thinking and planning a future, full of hope and prosperity, for you (Jerem. 29:11) is an evident example of how precious you are to Him.

The unconditional love of God means that, regardless of your position- saved or not saved- he dearly loves you. John 3; 16 says ‘For God so loved the world’ – not just believers. This shows that God loves everyone and not just a particular type of group, His love is the same towards all of us. This is a breath-taking feature as the Father’s love is so overwhelmingly powerful, yet equal towards all of humanity!

The famous ‘Love Chapter’, 1 Corinthians 13, describes God as the definition of love. This informs us that we cannot rightly comprehend love until we know God. For someone to be defined as love their character must be so compellingly affectionate, that a word often associated with tender and comforting emotions, is one of the very few ways to illustrate the persons being. This is the God we serve.

Chapters 2 and 3 of Hosea demonstrate the unfailing mercy of God. At this time Israel were worshiping false gods- even after all God had done for them. However, in spite of this, God forgave Israel and had a plan to lead them back to Him, so that they may be safe and at peace (ch. 2:18). This story could be used to illustrate many of our lives today, as we can sometimes find ourselves being unfaithful to God; but due to His amazing grace, He still loves and forgives us.

Song of Songs 4 describes how a husband feels towards his wife (Christ to the Church). It is written in verse 7 ‘You are beautiful my darling, beautiful in every way’. The following verse speaks about God wanting us to recruit with him- away from Lebanon, where it’s unsafe and ‘the lions have their dens’. Additionally, Ephesians 2:10 and Song of Songs 4:12 tells us what God sees when he looks at you- His treasure and workmanship.

In the world of today, ‘real beauty’ is often defined by an individual’s appearance; but God looks at our true beauty and identity which is found in Christ who lives inside of us (1 Sam.16;7, Galat. 2:20). God says we are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image (Psalms 139:14, Genesis 2:7) and that He has chosen to use you to be ‘His own special treasure’ (Deut. 7:6). You have astonishing potential and ‘through God working in you, you are able to accomplish infinitely more that you might ask or imagine’ (Ephes. 3:20). What more could you want or need?

Many people have the perception of God as a ‘big scary’ being that only tolerates humans. But the mentioned scriptures evidently show that we serve a God who genuinely loves and cares for us. The whole process of God putting in so much effort to save us, so that we may have a relationship with Him, is an amazing concept in itself and all contributes to the unbreakable love that He portrays.

Every Blessing,
